We’ll take you step by step through the procedure.

How Much Does It Cost?

Let’s speak about money for a minute. You can pick from a variety of papers to serve as confirmation of your residency in the United States.

“If you are a student, you must present official documents from your institution.” On the DDS Secure ID checklist page, you’ll discover a full list of accepted forms of identification and proof of residence documentation.

Address Change (License)

You are obliged to inform the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles of any change in your address or name within 30 days of the change taking effect.

How to change your address

  • If you relocate, you must notify the DMV within 30 days of your new address, which must be updated on your license, permit, non-driver ID, and vehicle records. If you detect a typographical error in your address, please notify us as soon as possible. The vehicle and license data are not linked in any way. It is necessary to update registration paperwork on a separate basis.
  • The title certificate record is updated when you alter your mailing address for car registration
  • Despite the fact that it is advised, you are not required to purchase new DMV paperwork with your new address on them. Customers get essential alerts and papers from the DMV in the mail. Use the same mailing address for all of your applications, papers, and transactions
  • This will save you time and money.
The U.S. Postal Service does not notify DMV when you change your mailing address

It is not necessary to update your DMV records when you change your mailing address with the United States Postal Service. You must still notify the United States Postal Service and the Department of Motor Vehicles of your address change.

For Traffic Tickets

If you change your address for a Traffic Ticket (at the Vermont Judicial Bureau), the change does not affect the address on your driver’s license, non-driver identification card, permit, or vehicle registration records, nor does it affect the address on your passport. In the event that you alter the address on your driver’s license, non-driver identification card, permit, or vehicle registration records, the address on your traffic ticket does not change as a result of the change.

Class D or M driver license or identification (ID) card

It is your responsibility to notify WisDOT of your move within 10 days of the date of your move. It is not necessary to get a new driver’s license or identification card produced with your revised address as long as your current address is noted on your DMV record. If you have a Wisconsin identification card or normal driver’s license, you can update your Wisconsin residence and/or postal address by completing one of the following procedures:

  • Change your mailing address over the internet
  • Please call (608) 266-2353 and request that the address on your driver’s license be altered. Send your notice of address change to the following address:

Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT)Division of Motor VehiclesP.O. Box 7917Madison, WI 53707-7917 Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT)Division of Motor Vehicles

  • Because of privacy concerns, the Department of Motor Vehicles does not suggest sending your change of address through email. The information can be sent to the Bureau of Driver Services through email, if that is what you prefer.

Include the number from your identification card or driver’s license. In the event that your residence changes, you will not be issued a new driver’s license or identification card. To apply for a replacement, you can do it online or in a DMV customer service location near you.

Commercial driver license (CDL)

If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL), you may be able to change your address and apply for a new license on the internet. For those who are ineligible to apply online, they must go to a DMV customer service location to amend their address and apply for a replacement within 10 days of being denied. You will be needed to provide identification as well as pay the appropriate cost.

Vehicle record

When you relocate, you must notify your local post office of your new address. Your license plate renewal notification will be mailed to the address on file with the United States Postal Service that is the most current address you have provided. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) collects updated addresses from the United States Postal Service database six times each year.

If the name and address on our registration database match the name and “old” address on the Postal Service database, we update our vehicle records to reflect the “new” address on the Postal Service database.
