Drivers License Cost by State 2021

A driver’s license is an official document, generally in the form of a plastic card, that enables a person to operate one or more types of motorized vehicles. In the United States, instead of the federal government, each state, territory, and the District of Columbia is responsible for issuing driver’s licenses. Most states need drivers to get a license before they may operate a vehicle in their home state. Each state’s driver’s license has a distinct appearance that is specific to that state.

  1. The laws governing driver license differ from one country to the next.
  2. The age at which a person can get a driver’s license, as well as the difficulty of the driving exam, differ from one jurisdiction to the next.
  3. The majority of states have enacted a graduated licensing regulation, which restricts some driving rights for new and inexperienced drivers.
  4. A temporary license performs the same responsibilities as a normal license, but it is subject to certain limitations, such as a limit on the number of passengers allowed in the car and a curfew for the driver after dark.
  5. An unrestricted license is the type of license that the vast majority of drivers possess, as it does not come with the restrictions that a provisional license does.
  6. The majority of states have a 16-year-old minimum age of participation.
  7. Prices in Missouri range from $10 to $89.00, while those in Washington range from $10 to $89.00.

Additionally, licenses expire after a specific number of years, which varies based on the state that issued the license in question. The expenses to get a driver’s license in each state, as well as the length of time a driver’s license is valid before it expires, are shown here.

Driver License Fees

The cost of a license varies depending on the type of license you are applying for and the state in which you live. As of January 1, 2016, licenses must be renewed every eight (8) years from the date of issuance, rather than every ten years from the date of birth. Cash, check, money order, and MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover credit cards are all acceptable forms of payment for a driver license and identification card. Additionally, in addition to the state-mandated fees indicated below, county clerks will levy an extra $4.00 administration fee to cover the costs of providing the services they provide.
