In order to verify your identity, you must present picture identification such as your current driver’s license or passport. It is possible that you will be required to submit a records request form and pay a charge.
Another option for obtaining your previous license number is to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The department’s customer care number, as well as the days and hours of the week when you may speak with a customer service person, is most likely provided on the “Contact Us” page of the department’s official website. In order to identify yourself, you will be required to provide information such as your name, Social Security number, and date of birth.
Another method is to request your driver’s record on the internet. Driver records contain not only your previous driver’s license number, but also additional information about you, such as points and traffic offenses that have accrued on your record in the past and present. You will be required to submit some identity data in order to gain access to your information on the internet. In Montana, for example, you must provide your first and last name, your current driver’s license number, and the last four digits of your Social Security number before you may proceed.
Virginia allows you to submit either your current driver’s license number or your Social Security number, along with your date of birth, if you so want. In most states, you will be asked to pay a charge in order to view your records online.
If you prefer, you may get a copy of your driving record through the mail. The ability to submit these requests via fax or phone is also available in several states, including Michigan. Several states need you to submit a specific form, which is normally available online via the DMV’s website, in order to obtain your record in this manner. It normally asks for information such as your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth, and it must be submitted along with a cost. In other places, such as Colorado, you can submit your request by writing a signed letter to the appropriate state agency.

All applicants for any type of Nebraska document listed above are required to be verified through their issuing agencies. These systems are:
- This system checks any pointers (licensing documents or State ID cards) issued in another state, including Commercial Driver Licenses that have been granted in another state. If a record is discovered in any other state that shows the applicant for a Nebraska document possesses a valid license and/or State ID Card, after the Nebraska document is granted, the out-of-state records become void, and the other state is notified of the Nebraska document issuance. This technology also enables for the retrieval of the driver’s history from the preceding state at the time of issue of the Nebraska driver history card. The Problem Driver Pointer System (PDPS) checks to see if anyone’s right to operate a motor vehicle has been suspended, revoked, or cancelled. This system checks the social security numbers of applicants using the Social Security Online Verification (SSOLV) system. Candidates for new and renewal driving license and State ID Card applications must produce either a valid social security number or an I-94 document from the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in order to be considered (in a valid foreign passport). A driver’s license or state identification card is denied if the applicant is unable to complete the process. The Department of Motor Vehicles makes use of an Interactive Driver’s License System, which is available online. One component of this method is verifying the applicants’ social security numbers with the Social Security Administration, which is a government agency. This has proven to be a successful weapon in the Department’s fight against false document and identity verification. Prior to the issue of a Nebraska permit, license, or State Identification Card, all Social Security numbers will be validated with the Social Security Administration using an online system. Remember to bring identification showing your Social Security number with you to your driver’s license appointment. If you require appropriate Social Security Verification documentation, please see the Identification/Address/SS Verification requirements section. This system, known as the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE), checks all papers issued by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to ensure that they are legitimate and have not expired. U.S. Passport Verification- This system, which is run by the Department of State, verifies all U.S. passports.
