How to Replace a Lost Level 1 Driver Learner’s Permit in Michigan

A graduated driver’s license, also known as a Level 1 license, is required by the state of Michigan for any drivers under the age of eighteen who are just starting to drive. In August 2018, the University upgraded the door entry and Mcard system to provide improved campus security and management of campus access for all students and faculty. Many academic and staff members upgraded their Mcards at that time, although there were a few who did not do so. Since August 2018, only improved Mcards have been issued, with the others being replaced. If you have an upgraded card, check to see if there is a key symbol to the right of your photo to validate that you have one.

Do I need an upgraded/new Mcard?

  • On Campus: Students who are going to campus for class, laboratories, and/or work should obtain a Mcard before entering. Remote Students Only: Remote students do not require a Mcard, although they can obtain one at their earliest opportunity.
