Your License

To drive legally in New Jersey, you must obtain a new license and vehicle registration from your previous state within 60 days of your arrival (120 days during a Public HealthEmergency), or before your current license and vehicle registration expire, whichever occurs first.

If you have recently relocated to New Jersey, you must transfer your out-of-state license and vehicle registration within 60 days of your arrival (120 days during a Public HealthEmergency).

To transfer yourout-of-state license (17 and over)

  • Make an appointment at a motor vehicle license center with a current, valid driver’s license that is in good standing, as well as the necessary legal documents to meet the 6 Points of Identification criteria.
